Bulleen Boomers have begun their rebuild with the signing of Detroit native, 6’3 Guard Damon Bozeman, who recently completed his college career at Saginaw Valley State University.
“Damon is a proven winner and leader, taking his SVSU team to the NCAA D2 Elite Eight in his senior season, picking up numerous All Conference Awards for the year while averaging 15ppg and 5rpg. Coach Baruth runs a great program and it has prepared Damon to be able to move to Melbourne and slot right into a new environment” said Bulleen Boomers Head Coach Luke Sunderland.
Damon brings a versatile skill set and extremely physical play to the team and his infectious personality has seen him fit in very quickly with his teammates.
The Boomers have had an overhaul of their roster, with Carlos Olson, James Weston and Jerry Juric the only returning players. While focusing on youth for the future, veteran Jarrod O’Shannessy has made the move over from Hawthorn. Joining him is his former teammate from McKinnon two seasons ago is big man Dejan Kostur, who after a few years off with injury is looking to pick up where he left off after having a successful half season upon his return from College.
Some exciting young players have joined the Boomers for season 2017, with former decorated junior, Victorian Under 20 representative David Tomat returning to his home club to don the blue and gold. Two other notable young players, former VYCM MVP Dylan Hogarty – Doyle and SCM Youth player of the Year nominee Lachlan Anthony make for a great inside/out combination. Several players from the Boomers’ VYCM side will also step up to the senior team throughout the season.
“With only a handful of players in the team over 25, we will clearly be one of the younger sides in the competition. Despite the age, the experience of our young players throughout high level juniors, College Basketball, SEABL and Big V SCM will mean they will not enter the season unprepared at all.” Said Sunderland.
