Sunbury's dual player signing announcement

25.01.2017

The Sunbury Jets are very pleased to announce the singing of two international players to their 2017 women’s squad.

First signing is 6’1 Orla O’Rielly of Ireland who will add some serious perimeter power to the newly elevated State Championship side. Orla most recently played in the top Spanish league (LFB) for Bembibre. She has also played professionally in the Czech Republic and represented Ireland internationally in the senior and 3x3 teams.

Orla had this to say about her signing with the Jets;

“I'm very happy to be joining the Sunbury Jets this season. They are coming off an extremely successful 2016 campaign and I'm excited to help them find success in the State Championship division.”

“One of the things that stood out most to me about the Jets is how unselfish they play. They spread the floor, move the ball really well, and play aggressive defense. I think I will fit in well with the team's style of play on both ends and at 6 '1 I will bring a bit of versatility to the line-up”.

“I'm excited to get to Sunbury and to get to work with the team and I'm looking forward to getting involved with the Junior Jets program working with the younger players and overall having a positive impact on the club.”

Coach Kennedy Kereama had this to say about Orla’s signing;

“Orla is going to be an exciting addition to our team. She brings European playing experience and has also captained her national side. From a skills standpoint Orla brings versatility and is able to play and defend a number of positions, has a great shot with her feet set or off the dribble and has excellent finishing ability going at the hoop.”

Second signing is 6’3 Josie Stockill of New Zealand who will bring some additional length and experience to the frontcourt. Josie most recently helped New Zealand to its first ever win over eventual Olympic silver medalist Spain in the pre Olympic qualifying games in 2015. Prior to New Zealand’s 2015 pre Olympic campaign Josie was a key player at Colgate as their starting centre averaging just over 10 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks per game.

Coach Kennedy Kereama said this on Josie Stockill’s signing;

“Josie will bring some much needed length and athleticism to our playing group. She is a hard worker, has a good basketball mind and is hungry to improve. I think Josie’s ability to rebound, run the middle lane, finish around the basket and defend the paint will give us some great interior presence.”

Josie and Orla will be joining us in early February and we look forward to having them here at Sunbury this season.
