Darryl Neal – Chairman (1990-present)

A founding member of the Warrnambool Seahawks, Neal has been  involved in basketball for the last three decades. 

His basketball background includes three years as team manger and referee Supervisor for the Geelong Supercats NBL team, ex-board member of the Country Invitation Basketball League and is presently a Board Member of the Australian Basketball Association as well as Chairmen of Big V Basketball, a position he has held for 18 years.

Neal is a Life Member of the Victorian Basketball League and in 2000 was awarded the Australian Sports Medal for services to basketball.

He is currently semi retired and living just outside of Warrnambool.

  

Raelene Whitten – C.E.O.

With over fifteen years administration experience at association level, Raelene comes to her role with a clear understanding of the trials and triumphs of senior elite basketball.  Combine her passion for the game with a tertiary qualification in sports management, a background in finance and almost twenty years of voluntary involvement into a package to take Big V to the next level.

Raelene began her career in sport as most do - through the volunteer ranks with her local association.  From a grass-roots beginning as a junior coach, club committee member and association grade secretary, she secured a role as Administrator of the Kilsyth Cobras elite program under the guidance of the late Hugh McMenamin. 

Since those early days she has added a three year stint coaching in the VJBL and has worked alongside some of this sport's most respected administrators.  Raelene describes this role as her "dream job" and looks forward to a long ans successful relationship with Big V.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mike Bullock – Vice President (1994-present)

Bullock began playing basketball at the age of 14, before taking over the running of the Northern Basketball Association at the age of 16. 

He has been involved in basketball ever since and is currently the President and General Manager of Waverley Basketball Association.

Bullock’s achievements include numerous awards including the Australian Government Sports Gold medal for services to sport in 2000, Basketball Victoria’s 35 years Certificate of Service and a 10 years certificate of Service from the Victorian Scoretable Association.

  

 

 

 

 

 

David Freer - Treasurer (2005-present)

Freer begins 2008 as his third year on the Big V Board. 

Involved in basketball for a number of years, Freer continues to juggle playing with his position as Director of the Shepparton Gators which he has held since 1996. 

Freer brings a vast amount of experience to the board in both basketball and through his job as Chief Financial Officer of a manufacturing company with a turnover of $250 million.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Ray Borner (2006- present)

Borner brings an illustrious basketball career to the table of the board which culminated in four Olympics, four World Championships, 225 games for Australia, the 1989 NBL title, 1985 NBL Most Valuable Player, 518 NBL games and an NBL Hall of Fame honour. 

In 2001 he was awarded the ABA Coach of the Year and spent three years with the Ballarat Miners and two years with the Warrnambool Seahawks. 

Borner currently holds the position of Commercial Business Manager at Telstra.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Wayne Bird (2006- present)

Bird is the Chief Executive Officer of Basketball Victoria, the state body for Basketball in Victoria, a position he has held since 2002. 

He is also involved as a Director of AUSRAPID Inc (Australian Sport & Recreation for Athletes with Integration Difficulties), Member of the Victoria University Curriculum Assessment Committee for Sports Administration Courses, Director of Big V Leagues and chair of SRV Working party on Spectator Behaviour in Sport.

  In 2000 Bird was awarded the Australian Sports medal for services to basketball and is also a Life member of Ringwood Basketball Association.

 

Larry Sengstock (2008 - present)

Larry enters the Big V board for his first time this term and brings with him a wealth of basketball experience, having played more than 450 NBL games during 18 seasons.

Larry is one of the most credentialed sports and events management executives in Australia having recently completed his role as head of the Sports and Athetes Services at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games.


Larry is currently employed as a senior consulant with SGL Consulting Group.

 

Laurie Joyce (2008 - present)

Laurie joined the Big V board in 2008 and brings with him a wealth of basketball management knowledge.

Laurie is a former Knox Basketball CEO and served on the VBL board from 1995 until 2002, taking on the roles of general committee member, secretary and then executive officer for the last two years of his term.

Laurie, alongside Darryl Neal, Mike Bullock, Wayne Bird and Glen Milner served on the Interim Governance Group which established Big V.

Laurie is currently employed as the Governance and Compliances Manager with Keane Australia Micropayment Consortium.

 


Maree Marchant (2008 - present)

Maree is a stalwart of the Diamond Valley Basketball Association. She has been involved with the Eagles' senior championship program for many years.

Maree began with a role in the office as administrator, before taking on a significant voluntary role with the club when she left the office two years ago.

Maree is currently employed with international freight forwarder, Duckworth Logistics.
