BRONCOS FINALISE SENIOR COACHING APPOINTMENTS

After an exhaustive assessment process, the Hume City Broncos have announced the Head Coaches who will lead their Championship Womens and Mens programs for next season.

Brian Vaughns has been appointed to the Championship Womens role, while Norm Ackland will take the reins with the Championship Mens team, supported by Club stalwart Glen Milner.

“We’ve arrived at these appointments after an extensive search and discussions with a number of prospective candidates,” President Peter Jackson said. “But we couldn’t be more pleased with the selections we have settled on.

“Brian has a great basketball background, having been drafted by the NBA Milwaukee Bucks, playing in Australia and overseas, and then coaching and conducting elite development programs at the Club and Secondary School level. He is looking forward to the challenge of maintaining the high competitive standards set by the Lady Broncos program over the past five years, and brings a fresh approach as well as a mature understanding of the sport.

“With Norm, an impressive grounding through the respected Nunawading junior program, both in playing and coaching capacities, and senior coaching experience with the then VBL Premier League and the past six years as Assistant Coach of the Kilsyth Cobras SEABL team, presented the type of credentials we were looking for in our next Head Coach. We’re confident that the progress made by our mens team under Glen’s guidance last season will continue into 2010 with Norm’s leadership of the group.”

The Broncos expect both coaching appointments to continue in the longer term, providing stability to the mens and womens programs and continuing the Club’s tradition of being a major player in the Big V State Championship environment.

Rounding out the senior coaching news, Karen Oldenhuis and Jamie Watts return to their roles with the Hume City Youth League Womens and Mens teams respectively, while the Club’s most highly decorated player, Randy Anderson, will coach the Under 20 Mens team. Locally developed coach Carl Masciti will be the coach of the Under 20 Womens Team.
