FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New Big V Board

With the new basketball year brings with it some new additions to the Big V board and after a successful Annual General Meeting in Shepparton last weekend, the league, whilst saddened with the loss of some long-serving members, has been further strengthened with the addition of three new members – Larry Sengstock, Marie Marchant and Laurie Joyce.

After many years of service, Treasurer Pat Kavanagh, Competition Committee Chairman Niall Quinn and board member Frank Metcalf have resigned from the board.

League General Manager Brad Noonan expressed his gratitude to each of the gentlemen, saying the group had significantly contributed to the league.

“We sincerely thank them for their time and work to our sport,” Noonan said.

League Chairman, Daryl Neal was reappointed unopposed for a further two years taking him into his 19th year in the top position with David Freer taking on the role as Treasurer following four years as a board member.

Current board member (for the past three years) and four- time Olympian and NBL Hall of Fame member, Ray Borner was also re-elected to the board.

Heading the new recruits was former Knox Basketball CEO Laurie Joyce, who brings with him sports management and governance experience across many levels.

Joyce, who is currently employed as the Governance and Compliances Manager with Keane Australia Micropayment Consortium, was elected for one year.

Larry Sengstock will join Joyce for his first appearance with the Big V board and brings with him a strong basketball background, having participated in more than 450 NBL games over 18 seasons, collecting five national league championships as well as being the name-sake of the NBL grand final MVP award.

He is also one of the most credentialed sports and events management executives in Australia, having recently completed  his role as the Head of Sport and Athlete Services for the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.

Sengstock is currently the Senior Consultant for SGL Consulting Group (Simply Great Leisure - an alliance of Australian and New Zealand sport, recreation, leisure, tourism, events, community wellness and management planning companies).

Noonan said the benefits of Sengstock joining the board would be invaluable.

And bringing the board into balance was Marie Marchant - a stalwart of the Diamond Valley Basketball Association.

Marchant has been involved with Diamond Valley’s senior championship program for many years, beginning with her role as the association’s office administrator and moving to her significant voluntary involvement with the club after leaving her office-role two years ago.

Noonan said Marchant would add a valuable voice to the board with her experience and knowledge of club administration.

The full Big V Board for 2009 is;

Chairman – Daryl Neal

Vice Chairman – Mike Bullock

Secretary – Brian Rossetti

Treasurer – David Freer

Board Members – Ray Borner, Laurie Joyce, Maree Marchant, Larry Sengstock.
